Sefton Schools – Chess Challenge Match.
On Tuesday 1st of December a team of 11 children travelled from Bishop David Sheppard Primary School to Kings Meadow Primary School to contest a challenge chess match.
Both schools are now in their third year of chess tuition as part of the Chess in Schools programme which made the match contested by a mixture of Year 5 and Year 6 children very interesting to watch.
The behaviour and sportsmanship of all the children was exceptional and a very close match was evenly contested right up the last board to finish.
The teams played a double round event, Bishop David Sheppard won the first round by 6.5 – 4.5, but Kings Meadow came back strongly in the second round winning this by 6 – 5. This meant that Bishop David Sheppard won the overall event by the narrowest of margins 11.5 – 10.5.
Five children excelled by winning both their games: Jakub Gluszko and Gektors Servuts from Bishop David Sheppard and Travis Bennett, Leo Taylor and Harry Wynne from Kings Meadow.
Many thanks to Kings Meadow for hosting the match, it is hoped that further inter schools competitions can be played in the New Year.
