Following Jesus, together we succeed

Our school community members are made in the image of God and we embrace their uniqueness. We have high expectations for our children to fulfil the promise of enjoying ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10) through experiencing high quality social, moral, physical and spiritual education. We are committed to providing children with enriching opportunities to prepare them for the next stage of their education and life. All children are supported to overcome potential barriers so that they flourish and succeed. Together, we work to inspire our children to be the best they can be. We aim to create resilient individuals who can contribute to their communities and take their place in the world as global citizens. Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to Bishop David Sheppard Church of England Primary School

Bishop David Sheppard CE (A) Primary School is an inspiring, stimulating and happy centre of learning, providing a safe, secure and comfortable environment where people care for others and for their shared environment. Children remain always at heart of all we do and our ambition to ensure that “Following Jesus, Together We Succeed” is what drives us forward, constantly improving and striving for outstanding in every aspect of school life.

We are proud of our school with its happy, caring Christian atmosphere. We welcome children from our whole community as well as those from Christian and other faith backgrounds. We are a one form entry primary school providing places for children from the age of 2 in Buttons’ Nursery. Although we have grown over the years, we are still small enough to ensure that our staff form close relationships with children and their families enabling us to give more attention to individual children and their needs.

As educators, we are privileged to influence the formative years of our pupils’ lives and we make a difference by giving our children the life opportunities they deserve. We want our children to leave Bishop David Sheppard with the highest possible standards in English, Mathematics, Science and across the curriculum. We aim to ensure that our children stay healthy, feel safe and are supported to discover the ‘winner within’. Our staff are dedicated to providing a wide variety of opportunities for our children to develop their potential to the full and to acquire the values, attitudes and personal skills which will enable them to live and serve as responsible citizens in society. We provide a wide and varied set of afterschool clubs and as a result, many of our children succeed in graduating from Children’s University. We try to ensure that excellence permeates every part of their school day and strive to create opportunities for every child to achieve their true potential. All members of our school community have high expectations of themselves and each other and our staff wish to provide a centre of excellence, which meets the needs of every individual and where Following Jesus, Together We Succeed.

As a Church school, Gospel values underpin all we do in Bishop David Sheppard Primary. We strive to instil in our children a realisation of their own sense of spirituality and an understanding of the need for a moral dimension to life, whilst minimising the impact of the materialistic world in which we live, upon their lives. Inclusion is a priority and Christian values are promoted within a celebration of our diverse society. Our school days give children the time and the space to build a deeper relationship with God and to build those life enhancing encounters with His goodness. Our Christian Values of Friendship, Compassion, Forgiveness, Endurance, Respect and Fairness, do not simply skim the surface but are deeply embedded within the ethos of the school and send out ripples to the wider community.

A commitment to ongoing building work and refurbishment since 2010 means that all of our children work in a beautiful environment which is conducive to good teaching and learning, and this has impacted notably on both standards and children’s pride in our school.

Visits to school are warmly welcomed.
