Children at Bishop David Sheppard begin their reading journey by following the systematic synthetic phonics programme Floppy’s Phonics.
International studies have shown that a systematic phonics approach to reading is particularly beneficial for younger learners (4 – 7) as they begin to read. A consistent synthetic approach to phonics has consistently been found to be effective in supporting younger pupils to master the basics of reading.
