At Bishop David Sheppard, we believe it is important to ensure that there is clear understanding about the knowledge and skills that pupils require in order to make safe decisions now and in the future. We want to support pupils in developing knowledge, vocabulary and confidence to be able to communicate any safeguarding issues, and to develop an understanding of previous or potential life experiences. We will work to will build on prior knowledge and skills and deliver the curriculum sensitively, dependent on the children’s development and needs. Through in depth conversations, the children will explore key life moments, ensuring that they understand crucial concepts and engage in active discussions. We will reflect on the current environment and support typical gaps in children’s knowledge in the areas of PSHE and safeguarding. We always design our learning to be inclusive and ensure that all pupils receive high quality teaching in PSHE to guarantee they develop the knowledge and skills required.
