Great News! Our music teacher, Mrs Murphy, has released a single with her colleagues, to raise funds for NHS Charities. She will be on the local tv news this evening!
Here are more details about her project and how you may be able to show your support;
A united musical collective have recorded an original song with all proceeds going to NHS Charities Together. The composers and producers, Jenny Murphy and Cassandra Kotchie, began the search for talented musicians and singers who could record from home in order to raise money for the NHS during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Jenny Murphy explains,
“I wanted to write a song to pay tribute to our NHS heroes and how we are relying on them to care for our loved ones. ‘Pass on the Rainbow’, began at my piano at home. I’m a music teacher in primary schools alongside my musical career and my partner is one of the 1.5 million on the critical list that need to be shielded, so I’ve been unable to go into school to work. I started a social media group asking my local friends in Southport to help in recording the song. Before we knew it, singers from all over the country, including a BGT semi-finalist, wanted to take part.”
Cassandra Kotchie, professional vocalist, originally from Perth in Australia was instantly inspired by the idea and excited to collaborate in writing and producing the song,
“I can’t think of a more valuable reason to be making music right now than to help those on the front line. We are sending every penny generated from this single to NHS Charities Together.
The professional performers and musicians on this record have all recently lost all sources of income and yet they were all incredibly eager to donate their time and expertise.”
Southport guitarist Martin Fearn, was more than happy to help,
“It's fantastic to be able to use this unexpected time at home to do something worthwhile.”
The song was recorded from over thirty different homes and put together by Tom Percy.
The record label owner explains,
“When the announcement came that we should be social distancing and all music events were cancelled, my first thought was on the impact of the local music industry. I set about creating online collaborative projects for young musicians to work together, recording from home. The next week I was furloughed from work when I saw Jenny’s facebook post. I wanted to get involved in this project as I knew I could help. In such unprecedented circumstances, the result of this project is a real testament to Jenny, Cassandra and the musicians taking part.”
