Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Mrs Hughes would like to welcome you to our fabulous Reception class!
Welcome to our class webpage where you can find out about our amazing learning journey. You will find information about our activities, examples of our work and comments from us! Please visit often to see our learning journey develop.

Botanic Gardens Book Hunt

We enjoyed our (very wet) trip to Botanic Gardens. The children managed to stay nice and dry in their all weather suits and wellies. We looked for signs or Autumn as we explored the park, had fun on the playground and even discovered some books in the woods.

Welcome to Reception!

The children have had a wonderful first couple of weeks (so have Mrs Hughes and Miss Newall!) Here are some images of the children exploring their new class...

Thank you Jack!

Birthday Books

We are asking parents to send a book to school with their birthday boys and girls instead of sweet treats. We will insert a book plate to commemorate your child's birthday and keep the book in class. We hope you will support us in this and would like to thank Jack and his family for being the first.

The Tyger

We have had so much fun reciting the first verse of the poem 'The Tyger'. We have also had a great time creating artwork linked to the topic, as well as learning all about Tigers! We especially enjoyed reading 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'.

Our Class Charter

We enjoyed developing our charter together. We focused on our 'right to play' and each created a 'Forky' as a promise to look after the toys in our school, just like Bonnie does on the film 'Toy Story 4'.

It's Good to be Me!

As part of our 'all about me' topic, we have enjoyed creating self portraits using different media. We have also had lots of fun getting to know one another, including our likes and dislikes, our families and what makes us feel happy, sad and cross.

Magical Maths!

As we are at the very beginning of our mathematics journey, what better place to start than with the number one! We were so impressed with how quickly children got to grips with our 'number museum' activity. Here's an example of their hard work...

Measuring Me!

As part of our current topic, we have enjoyed investigating height. Children enjoyed being measured against our class height chart and having their heights plotted. We investigated which children and adults were taller or shorter than each other. We can't wait to repeat this activity later on in the year to see how much we've grown!
