Birds of Prey Exhibition
Today we had a special visitor in school. Year 1 and 2 were visited by a bird expert who brought 7 birds of prey along with him. We asked lots of interesting questions and found out lots of fantastic facts about hawks, owls, falcons, buzzards and kestrels. Some of us even got to hold one! We have done some brilliant writing all about these amazing birds.
World Book Week
This week we have been celebrating World Book Week. As part of our celebrations we have been reading 'Pirates Love Underpants' and on Monday we discovered a treasure chest in our classroom. Inside there was a letter, a map and lots of treasure. Those naughty pirates had dropped their golden underpants in our garden and were coming to get them back! We had to make some posters to warn everybody in school that the pirates were on their way.
On Friday we all dressed up as pirates and shared our work with the rest of the school. We had so much fun!
Disability Awareness Day - 2/3/16
Today was Disability Awareness Day. We all met a man called John McCorkell who has cerebral palsy and runs a company called 'It's all normal' which promotes inclusion.
John spoke about his life and experiences in assembly and then Year 1 took part in a workshop where we got a chance to ask questions and gain an understanding of what it is like to be disabled. He helped us to think about the different ways we can communicate by using gestures and signs. He gave us an idea of the challenges disabled people face in our society.
We all learnt that although we are all different from each other and we all may do things in a different way than others, we should treat all people the same regardless of our differences.
The children's understanding of our Christian Value of endurance was greatly supported by hearing of the way in which John rises to the challenges he encounters and has to drive himself to achieve success.
Reading books are changed every Friday. Please make sure to sign your child's reading record each time you listen to them read.
Homework is given on a Monday and collected in on Friday.
Please ensure PE kits are in school every day and items are clearly labelled.
