Martin Mere - 15/6/16
We visited Martin Mere to help us with our Science topic 'Living things and their Habitats'.
We found out all about the birds and animals that can be found at Martin Mere. We went on a mini beast hunt in the woods and then we identified and compared the creatures we had all found. We found lots! After that we observed the otters to see what we could find out about them. We learnt about how they are adapted to suit their habitat. We had a fantastic time!
'Bike It' Day
We had a fantastic time learning to ride our bikes safely.
Arts Week & 90th Birthday Celebrations
As part of the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations we looked at Queen Elizabeth II's royal coat of arms. We found out what all the different sections represent. We then designed and created our own coat of arms using clay with each section representing something about us. Can you guess which coat of arms belongs to each child in Year 2?
Birds of Prey Exhibition
Today we were visited by a bird expert who brought 7 birds of prey along with him. We asked lots of interesting questions and found out lots of fantastic facts about hawks, owls, falcons, buzzards and kestrels. We are going to find out even more about them and their habitats during our Science lessons.
British Science Week 2016
On Friday 11th March we celebrated the beginning of British Science Week 2016 with a whole school Science Day. Children had great fun taking part in lots of exciting hands on investigations including making lava lamps, balloon rockets and magnet mazes.
If you would like to try some of these exciting activities at home please find the details in our handy guide below.
Other Faith Week
Year 2 have been learning about different faiths this week including Islam and Hinduism. Some of our Year 6 children visited our class to share their faith with us. We asked lots of questions and found it really interesting.
World Book Week
This week we have been celebrating World Book Week. As part of our celebrations we have been reading 'Pirates Love Underpants' and have created some fantastic 'Wanted' posters. On Friday we all dressed up as pirates and shared our writing with the rest of the school. We had so much fun!
Disability Awareness Day - 2/3/16
Today was Disability Awareness Day. The children met a man called John McCorkell who has had cerebral palsy since birth and runs a company called 'It's all normal' which promotes inclusion.
The children listened to John talk about his life and experiences in an assembly and then took part in a workshop where they got a chance to ask questions and gain an understanding of what it is like to be disabled. He helped the children think about the different ways in which they could communicate by using all of their senses and the challenges that they would encounter if they had a disability.
One of the main messages from John was that we all do things slightly differently to others but we should treat all people the same regardless of our differences.
The children's understanding of our Christian Value of endurance was greatly supported by hearing of the way in which John rises to the challenges he encounters and has to drive himself to achieve success.
Guinea Pig Week
We have some new pet guinea pigs at school and the children have had great fun visiting them this week. We have written some fantastic non-chronological reports to tell other children and adults all about guinea pigs.
