Welcome to Year 3!
Welcome to our class webpage where you can f
We have had a wonderful day celebrating the Royal Wedding! At lunchtime, we enjoyed eating our lunch on the field together. Then we spent the afternoon researching the Royal Wedding and completing different crafts.
Over the past few weeks, we have been working with Mr Smethurst from Stanley High School developing our games skills. We have improved our accuracy when throwing and catching. We have also started to develop our tacatial knowledge when playing games such as netball, basketball and handball. Using everything we had learnt we competed in a mini tournament. Have a look at some of the action shots taken during the competition.
Our current Science topic is all about plants. We are currently investigating what a plant needs to grow. As a class, we made predictions that a plant needs soil, water, sunlight and air to grow. In order to prove this we have set up a fair test. Each seed had been given different things that we think could help it grow. Keep checking our page for updates to see if our predictions are accurate.
We have been learning about Little Red Riding Hood in French. Working together, we had to match the pictures to the french words and then order them accordingly.
All the children worked brilliantly. Bravo!
Sport Skills Academy
Today we were very lucky to work with two teachers from Sports Skills Academy. Throughout the day, we learnt how to play a new sport ‘Korfball’, developed our understanding of how to measure and then improve our health and fitness and most of all we had lots of FUN! It was wonderful to see all children giving 100% effort, working as team and developing new skills.
As a treat for winning the reading competition last half term, we enjoyed milkshake and cookies outside in the sunshine. We also enjoyed listening to our class novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
World Book Day
Year 3 love reading! So today has been such a fun day. We have looked at lots of different books from fairy tales to fascinating fact books, shared our favourite stories, read extracts using excellent expression and even interviewed some famous fictional faces.
The Last Supper
Our RE unit this half term focuses on Easter. We really enjoyed reenacting the story of Maunday Thursday and this helped us to begin to empathise with Jesus and his disciples. Using what we had learnt we created a dairy entry.
Some of our year 3 parents were invited into our classroom to watch their children lead our class collective worship. The children put a lot of effort into the planning, preparation and delivery of their worship. It was lovely to listen to the children sharing important messages and stories on forgiveness.
During our English and Geography lessons, we have been gathering lots of interesting facts about volcanoes and earthquakes. Once we had collected the information using books, videos, posters and the internet we began to sort them into groups. We began to realise that each group of facts could create a paragraph in our report.
What are tectonic plates?
We have really been enjoying learning all about volcanoes and earthquakes as part of our geography topic. Using different sources, we found out that earthquakes and volcanoes are caused by tectonic plates. These plates can move in three diffferent ways. To find out the diffferent ways these plates move, we got a little bit messy. Have a look at what we discovered!
Parallel, perpendicular, vertical or horizontal!
In Maths we have been focusing on different types of lines. Using what we have learnt, we began to investigate where we could see these lines. We found them in shapes, in our classroom, outside on the playground and many more places.
In Science, we have been learning all about the different food groups. We really enjoyed working together to sort different foods into their correct group. Have a look at our great work!
We have loved using our History topic as inspiration to create some amazing artwork. Using a range of sources, we researched the different types of necklace and collar the Egyptians wore. We then used the ideas we had gathered to create our very own Egyptian collars. Have a look at our fantastic work!
In History, we have been learning about chronology. Working in groups, we placed significant eras on a timeline. We discovered that the Ancient Egyptians lived over 5,ooo years ago!
'The Door' by Miroslav Holub
Year 3 have been learning the poem ‘The Door’ by Miroslav Holub. We have been working hard to learn it and have been working on our performance skills. We have also enjoyed creating our own version of the poem, thinking about what could be behind the door.
