We had a wonderful World Book Day. Thank to everyone for making a fantastic effort, the children looked great! We really enjoyed reading lots of books and wrote a book review about our favourite books. As always, reading is a huge priority. Please try to listen to your child read every evening and record this in their reading record.
Stonehenge
As part of our history work about the Stone Age, we created our very own models of Stonehenge using biscuits. The children really enjoyed learning about the history of Stonehenge. We know when and how Stonehenge was built but there are many different theories as to why it was built. As us why we think it was built.
Formby Beach
Year 3 had a fantastic morning at Formby Beach. It was great to be out in the open air and explore the beautiful coastline. The children took along their sketch books and created some lovely, detailed sketches of the coastline. We also had great fun running up and down the sand dunes! It was also a great opportunity for the children to develop their building skills. We enjoyed building dens in the forest and worked well with our friends, working together and listening to each other.
Rock Types
Our science topic this term is rocks and fossils. We have been exploring the different rock types and how they are formed by exploring the rock cycle. We used starburst sweets to create the 3 different types of rocks; igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Ask us about how the different rocks are created.
The Charge of the Light Brigade
We really enjoyed analysing, rehearsing and performing the poem The Charge of the Light Brigade. It was a great opportunity for us to explore archaic language and a momentous moment in history. Year 3 worked incredibly hard to rehearse this poem and put on a marvellous performance.
Healthy Sandwiches
As part of our DT and science work we designed, created, tasted and evaluated our own healthy sandwiches. We chose our ingredients very carefully, making sure we selected food from the different food groups. After we had tasted our wonderful creations, we evaluated them thinking about what we liked and what we would like to change. Most of us enjoyed our sandwiches although ketchup and banana might have been a tad to creative for our taste buds......
Ancient Egyptian Homework Project
Thank you to everyone for the tremendous effort that was made with our homework project. The work was outstanding and it was lovely to see the enthusiasm of the children when sharing their work. Keep a look out for our next homework project in the spring term.
Yoga
A huge thank you to Emma from Active Sefton for our very relaxing yoga session this afternoon. It was wonderful to see the children engage in a new activity and relax after a very busy week in school.
Healthy Body, Healthy Mind
For our new science unit, Animals including humans, we have been learning about a healthy balanced diet. The children have been exploring different food groups and there purpose. We have also explored healthy and unhealthy foods. As part of our Healthy Habits session with Emma, we have explored the sugar content in drinks. It was very interesting and quite surprising to see the amount of sugar in some drinks. Next, we will be exploring animal diets and skeletons.
Our Morning at Pizza Express.
We had a very exciting morning at Pizza Express. A huge thank you to Mark and Craig for our wonderful pizza making experience. The children were able to make their very own pizzas and we enjoyed eating them for lunch. We were also able to sample some different ingredients including pepperoni, mozzarella, mushrooms and olives. The olives weren't a very popular choice! It was a great morning and the children have written wonderful recounts about our visit.
Liar by Rachel Rooney
We rehearsed and performed Liar by Rachel Rooney for National Poetry Day.
Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics
We have really enjoyed exploring the topic, ancient Egyptians. As part of our topic,we have been learning about Egyptian writing called hieroglyphics. We had great fun writing our names in hieroglyphics, some children even did their surnames!
Liverpool Synagogue
Year 3 had a fantastic trip to the Liverpool Synagogue. The building was absolutely beautiful and full of lots of wonderful artefacts. It was really interesting to find out about the Jewish religion. Our favourite part of the trip was looking at the Torah scrolls. Ask us a question about Judaism, we now consider ourselves to be experts!
The Human Timeline
In History this half term, we are learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. To start our History topic, we explored significant periods and events. We were then able to put these key eras into chronological order. Following this, we were challenged to match images to their correct time period. We did an amazing job. We can’t wait to find out all about the Ancient Egyptians.
Maths-place value
We have been exploring place value in our maths sessions. We are confident at building 3 digit numbers using concrete materials. We have also been working on writing numbers in both numerals and words. We are really enjoying maths and especially enjoy completing chilli challenges!
