Welcome to Year 4!
The Water Cycle
Year 4 had a very special visitor in class today, Janet from United Utilities. She came in to teach us about the water cycle and how important water really is to us. We found out where our water comes from, how it is cleaned and how much water we use each day.
We have had an amazing time at Crosby Lakeside! Over the past two days, we have been very busy canoeing, kayaking, raft building, problem solving, orienteering and archery! We even managed to squeeze in a visit to the park and the beach to see the iron men. The children were brilliantly behaved and had huge smiles on their faces throughout our trip. Take a look at all the fun we had!
The Great Get Together
In aid of The Great Get Together, we enjoyed a picnic on the field in the beautiful sunshine.
Design & Technology
Over the year, we have enjoyed a wide range of D&T projects. Clay sculptures inspired by our Liverpool topic, designing and making an omelette as a healthy meal and learning how to cross stitch. We have been very busy and creative. Take a look at our masterpieces!
PE in the sun!
This week we made the most of the sunshine and enjoyed our PE lesson outside. We have been learning about how important it is to keep ourselves fit and healthy. One way to do this is circuit training, which raises our heart rate and gets our muscles working hard.
Stanley High Visit
We were lucky enough to spend a whole day at Stanley High School. Whilst we were there, we enjoyed lots of different history, D&T and PE activities. Have a look at what we got up to...
As part of our science topic we have been discovering more about teeth. Why are they important? What do we use them for? Why do we need to look after them? We found out a lot of interesting information and learnt how important it is to look after our teeth.
What happens to our food?
We have been learning about the food we eat and the journey it takes through our body. We thoroughly enjoyed recreating the digestive system and turning a piece of food into waste.
Where do we live?
Building on our map skills from Year 3, we used a range of digital maps to locate our school, homes and other significant places in Southport. We even began to map out routes from Southport to places across the United Kingdom. We can’t wait to carry on developing our map reading skills and testing them out over the year.
We have loved our science topic all about electricity. Throughout the topic, we were set different challenges including how to light a bulb and make a switch. Not only did we develop our investigation skills, we further developed our teamwork skills.
Our challenge was to match Roman Numerals to numerals this morning. Working together, we were able to recognise Roman Numerals up to 100! Challenge complete!
Jewish New Year
To begin our new school year we learnt all about Jewish New Year. We discovered that Jewish New is called Rosh Hashanah and lasts two days. Many Jewish people celebrate by eating apples and pomegranate dipped in honey. We really enjoyed trying this tradition. It was delicious!
If I were...
During our first week in Year 4, we really enjoyed reading, performing and talking about the poem 'If I were...' by Eva Robinson. We used this as inspiration to create our very own versions, which we are very proud of. We also worked with new materials and learnt new skills to create beautiful pieces of artwork. Our first week was certainly very busy!
Enjoy the video of our performance of the poem along with our very own actions.
